Abstract

306,082. Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre. Feb. 15, 1928, [Convention date]. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates to automatic pistols in which a safety device locks the sear when the magazine is removed and releases the sear when the magazine is replaced. According to the invention, a positive stop or shoulder is adapted to be inserted in the path of the magazine if the trigger is pulled, thereby preventing the complete insertion of the magazine and avoiding 'accidental firing. As shown, the magazine 2<m>, Fig. 3, when, inserted in the grip 2p of a pistol 2b, bears on an inclined part 3p of a lever 3a pivoted at 2<t>, and deflects that lever against a spring 3<r>. A shoulder 3t on the lever 3a then releases a lug 3k on the sear 3, whereas when the magazine is removed, the spring 3T causes the lever to lock the sear, as shown in the Figure. In addition to this known safety device, the invention provides a positive stop 4<k> on the rod 4a connecting the trigger 4 to the sear 3, this stop being so arranged that, if the trigger is pressed, the stop lies in the path of the magazine and prevents the complete insertion of the magazine before the safety lever 3a has been deflected to release the sear. The magazine can be fully inserted only when the trigger is released, and when the magazine is fully inserted, a recess 2<v> therein lies opposite tha stop 4k and allows the trigger 4 to be pulled. A catch 2<a> retains the magazine in position; and the sear 3 may be locked by a known safety member 4<s>. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes (1) a shoulder 3<s> formed on the lever 3a to lock the lug 3<k> cf the sear temporarily if a blow struck at the base of the, weapon causes the lever to be deflected by its inertia; (2) interlocking lugs and recesses on the extractor and on the firing-pin to prevent the loss of the latter when the breech-block is detached; and (3) grooves in the breech-block for the upper edg&s of the magazine to permit the removal of the breech-block after the removal of the barrel without the usual previous removal of the magazine. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
