Grips, roller-type; lock mechanism, tumblertype.-In means, for controlling the rotation of one element with respect to a fixed element by a roller controlled by a key -lock, the roller is normally wedged between the elements during relative movement, but is prevented from wedging by the key-lock. The roller 8<b>, Fig. 3, is mounted in a wedge recess 8<1b> between the fixed and moving parts 2<b>, 23<b> and is restrained by a lock bolt 7<b>. This bolt is held by a spring tumbler 22<b> and actuated by the arm 19<b> of a revolving-barrel lock. To prevent rotation in either direction, Fig. 7, two lock bolts are provided to engage two rollers. As applied to the steering column of a motor-car, Fig. 5, the column 27 carries a friction collar 26 tightened on rotation of the ring 28 by the handle 29. As applied to the spare-wheel support for a motor-car, Fig. 6, the spare wheel 82 is mounted on a projection 31 which is carried by the support 30 and has a locking-device 33 rotated by a handle 34.
