Abstract

304,499. Wallace, E. C. Feb. 20, 1928. Compound blocks. -A composite paving - block comprises a moulded body 1 of substantial weight and a surface member 2 of resilient rubber composition having one continuous projection 3 spaced from the edge of the member and enclosing an area of pre-determined size and form. The moulded body engages continuously the sides and bottom of the projection 3 throughout its entire extent. The block may be of octagonal or hexagonal shape in plan, and the projection 3 may enclose a space of hexagonal, rectangular, circular, triangular, &c. form. A peripheral flange 5, Fig. 8, undercut on its inner side, may also be provided on the surface member 2. In the modification shown in Fig. 9 the base 8 of the area enclosed by the projection 7 may not extend to the undersurface of the surface member. Where surface members are provided on both the upper and lower faces of the block, these may be connected by two or more rubber bars 13 formed integral with the projections 12 as shown in Fig. 10.
