Abstract

299,632. Dean, G. Dec. 14, 1927. Couplings, disconnectible; butt joints.-Two pipes 2, 3, Fig. 1, having normally abutting flanges 4, 5 are drawn together and coupled with the interposition of a jointing washer 6 by means of a lever 12 which is pivoted on the pipe 2 and is adapted to engage a yoke 7 pivoted on the pipe 3. The lever is provided with a notch 14 to receive the free end 10 of the yoke, and the lever and yoke are so arranged that upon operation of the lever the yoke is drawn tight and its free end then crosses the dead centre, constituted by the line joining the pivots 8, 13 of the yoke and lever respectively, so that a self-locking effect is produced. In the modification shown in Fig. 3 two such coupling devices are used, and the parts 9, into which the yokes pivot, are arranged to swivel on the pipe 2. The invention is said to be particularly applicable to the multi-service pumps described in Specification 279,931, [Class 102 (i), Pumps &c.].
