Abstract
298,011. Moulder, G. J. Hay-, and Inshaw, J. F. Jan. 2, 1928. Catches, automatic; striking plates for locks; stud-and-socket fastenings. - A fastening for motor-car &c. doors comprises a pair of sliding plates A, A<1> urged towards each other by springs B, B<1> and separable by rotating a cam E by a spindle O provided with a handle extension D inside the car and with a handle P outside. The inner ends of the plates are concavely curved as in Fig. 1, and are bevelled so that when the door is closed they ride over the head of a stud T carried by a striking plate S, fixed to the door post R, and snap into one or other of two grooves T<1>, T<2> formed on the stud, the former groove constituting a safety catch effective if the groove T<2> is not properly engaged. The plates are mounted in a casing affixed to the door and provided with an aperture to receive the stud, the aperture having a substantial boss M. A shock-absorbing rubber ring T<3> is provided on the stud. The lever D has a pivoted catch L which may be engaged in a slot L<2> to prevent release of the catch by handle-operation if desired.
