Abstract

292,378. Page, A. H. Aug. 3, 1927. Protractors; rules; squares. - A drawing &c. instrument is provided with supporting means adapted to maintain the instrument normally spaced from the paper &c. but displaceable so as to bring the operative face or edge of the instrument into contact with the paper when required for ruling &c. The Figures show a celluloid &c. setsquare embodying the invention. The square 1 is formed with three integral tongues 2 by the removal of the portions 3 of the celluloid and in each of the tongues is secured a steel pin 4 with rounded ends normally projecting beyond the surfaces of the square. The. square rests on these pins whilst being moved about over the paper &c., but pressure on the upper surface of the square displaces the tongues as shown in Fig. 3 so that the lower face of the square is brought into contact with the paper when a line is to be drawn. In the case of a wooden square &c. the resilient supporting-members may be formed as springs supported in slots or holes in the square and carrying balls &c. on their free ends.
