Abstract

291,274. Fornaca, G. Oct. 4, 1927. Valve gear.-The inlet and exhaust cams 7, 8 of an engine having radial stationary cylinders are formed on a sleeve 5 driven by planet pinions 12 carried by a member 10 which rotates in the same direction as the main shaft 3. The pinions 12 engage an internal gear 9 on the cam sleeve 5 and are mounted on shafts 11 arranged in the member 10, other pinions 13 on the shafts 11 engaging a fixed internal gear 15 and also a pinion 14 on the engine shaft. For an engine having n cylinders, the number of inlet and exhaust cams n+1 1 respectively is --, and their speed is -- of that 2 n + 1 of the engine shaft. Where the number of cylinders is small, for example three, the number of cams is doubled and their speed halved.
