Abstract

290,228. Nestler, F. C. May 10, 1927, [Convention. date]. Addition to 280,250. Visibde signals. - A modification of the means for directing signals described in the parent Specification, comprises a shaft a, carrying the signal, pairs of balls y wedged by interposed springs y<1> between a polygonal member x on the shaft and a fixed casing u, a finger x<2> on the member x projecting between one pair of the balls, and a rotatable member z, having claws z<1> engaging the balls and an arm z<2> connected to the piston h of a servomotor so that, when the latter is operated, the balls are forced by the claws out of wedging engagement with the casing u and operate the finger x<2> to rotate the shaft, the balls relocking the shaft immediately the action of the servo-motor ceases. The servo-motor may be controlled by compressed air or suction and fluid pressure obtaining in the induction, exhaust, lubricating or cooling system of the engine may be utilized. In the form shown, a slidable valve r<1>, controlled by a Bowden cable r<3>, is adapted to put either end of the cylinder i in communication with a suction conduit s<1> and admit air from inlets s<2> to the other end. An adjustable abutment 1 may be provided in one, or each, end of the cylinder to limit the movement of the piston. The shaft a is hollow and is provided on one end with a ball engaging in a bearing. The other end is connected to an axle end 8 of the member x, the other end 6 of which is rotatable in a ball 3<1> on the casing u, the ball 3<1> being mounted in a bearing 4<1>. A plug 10 and a stuffing box 11 prevent damp penetrating into the casing u. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the shaft may be operated manually through flexible or rigid transmission means or by an electric control means. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
