Blades and vanes; fluid, disposing of.- Passages d are formed through the blade roots or blade root spacers c of both the fixed and running blades for conducting away fluid which passes outside the blades. The object is to prevent this leakage fluid from returning into the main system and causing whirls. The passages in the roots or spacers of the rotating blades b may be so shaped that the leakage fluid imparts energy in passing. The dimensions of the passages may be such that the pressure at the outlet of each passage is equal to the pressure in the corresponding blade-gap. The arrangement facilitates the collection of condensation water.
