Abstract

288,507. Swift, S. Nov. 30, 1927. Doors, wagon.-In order to facilitate the unloading of railway mineral wagons and the like, a compound door is provided comprising two parts c, e adapted to open inwardly on hinges and one or more panels m sliding in the plane of the door opening, the panel or panels m being first moved to uncover an aperture or apertures k through which the contents adjacent the door are removed, after which the entire door may be opened. In the construction shown, one part c extends the full length of the wagon side, while the part e terminates in an edge e<1> above the floor level and is provided with guides r to receive a sliding panel m, the bottom boards a<1> of the wagon side being extended to form inclined edges for the aperture k. Where a cross beam or head of wood s is employed adjacent to the door opening, the inner face of the beam or head is inclined to facilitate removal of the material being unloaded. In a modification the panel m is arranged to slide horizontally or in an inclined direction in guides on the wagon side.
