Brush apparatus; band apparatus; disc apparatus.-A device for pointing bristles of brushes automatically is provided with a rotatable bristle carrying member and a rotatable abrading member having several pins to which abrading material is adhered, the direction of relative rotary movement of the two members being changed at will. The carrying member 1, Fig. 1, and abrading member 5 may both consist of rotating wheels. The holding means for bristles may consist of a channel 2, Fig. 7, and a spring 3 in the periphery of the wheel or means may be constructed in a separate block 23 pivoted to the wheel. Around the abrading whee are pins 6 to which abrading material such as emery powder is adhered. The abrading wheel is fixed to the frame, and the carrying wheel is carried on a bearing 7 caused to slide in the frame by a screw 8. The wheels can be driven in either direction by suitable driving means. Brush bristles 9 are brought by the screw 8 into the zone of the pins 6 which are rotated first in one and then in the other direction. If the bristles are held in the block 23, Fig. 7, they become inclined by the action of the pins 6 which then act more effectively. In a modification, Fig. 3, three abrading wheels 5', 5<2>, 5<3>, act together on the brush carrying wheel 1. In another modification, Fig. 4, an abrading belt 15 replaces the abrading wheel and a brush carrying wheel. In another modification a brush carrying wheel has the abrading wheels on opposite sides of it. The abrading wheels are turned in opposite directions and the carrying wheel is operated by a screw so as to be operated upon by either one wheel or the other. In a further modification each brush holding means is arranged to revolve on its own axis and consists of a cylindrical socket 25, Figs. 10, 11, formed in a block 23 and a brush holder 26 carrying a brush 9<1>, and having on the outside a groove 27 and a number of pins 28. The holder is rotatable, the groove 27 engaging a screw 29. The holder has set screws 30 bv which to fix the brush. A projection on the frame of the machine is so situated that projections 28 touch it when the wheel rotates. In this way round brushes receive even abrading action.
