Abstract
286,355. General Electric Co., Ltd., Kinnes, A., Hyslop, J. r., and Rycroft, J. L. Dec. 1, 1926. Electric hot-plates. - An electric heating wire threaded through beads is packed in a pasty material which fills the interstices between the wire and the beads and the beads and the heating surface and on firing forms a refractory insulating material of considerable conductivity for heat. Two compositions for the purpose are described; one consists of kaolin, magnesium oxide, " Grosolmerode grog," and " Grosolmerode raw," with a small quantity of sodium silicate; the other is made of Cillimanite, and plastic clay. A layer 2 of paste is placed in the hot plate cover 1 and the beads 3 with the wire passing through them laid thereon. More paste is then applied to fill the interstices and from a covering layer 4 and the whole is fired. A sheet of mica 5 and a closing plate 6 are then added. The terminals are supported on an insulating bar 9 attached to the plate 6 by lugs 8. In some cases the paste may be forced into the interstices under pressure or sucked in by a vacuum.
