Abstract

Indicators actuated by pressure of head of liquid.-A liquid-level gauge for use particularly with the petrol tanks of automobiles comprises a tube 13 closed at its lower end by a membrance 23 and at its upper end, which communicates through an elbow-piece and a capillary tube 5 with a bellows indicator 8, by a baffle 19 having a central orifice 20. During the filling of the tank, the vent 10 in the elbow-piece is opened so that the liquid reaches the same level in the tank and the tube 13. After filling, the vent is closed and the vacuum produced above the baffle in the tube by the consumption of the petrol in the tank is recorded on a dial 7 connected to the bellows and is a measure of the liquid-level in the tank.
