Abstract

Separating or sorting by weighing.-A machine for sorting by weighing comprises a number of balances b mounted on a rotary table a and each provided with a pan c to receive an article to be weighed and with an extension f engaging a camlike track e, and an electromagnetically operated ejector m which, when the articles reaches a certain position, ejects the article if the latter is of predetermined weight. The track e is formed in a stationary cylinder d and around a part of the periphery comprises a single slot, but around the remainder is divided into two slots e', e<2>. If the article on the pan is of sufficient weight, the extension f enters the upper slot e<1> and engages an arm i which closes contacts j in an electric circuit containing a solenoid k thereby actuating the ejector m. If the article is of insufficient weight, the extension enters the lower slot e<2>, the solenoid is not energized, and the article is removed by contact wth a fixed arm at some other position of the platform. Three slots may be provided to correspond to light weights, correct weights and excessive weights, two solenoids being used for ejecting articles of two denominations.
