Abstract

277,137. Peake, J. F. June 26, 1926. Reciprocating-tool machines; rotating-tool machines.-In a machine for splitting, skiving, or buffing leather the workpiece is held to a table or roller by suction. A skiving table 23 reciprocated by crank mechanism 15 has an apertured concave surface upon which the workpiece is carried past an endless band or other knife 1 or grinding element. A suction box 29 is connected through valves 28 and pipes 25 to the orifices. The workpiece is pressed upon the apertured surface by a roller 22 and is retained in position by suction. Should one of the apertures be not covered, a loose disc 27 is raised to stop off the pipe. A slight leak in the disc 27 allows an inoperative pipe 25 to become operative after the leather is pressed down by the roller 22. In a modification an apertured roller is substituted for the flat table.
