Abstract
275,914. Still, C. May 12, 1927. Coke ovens.-In an horizontal coke oven the distillation gases are withdrawn from the bottom of the oven, and the heating arrangements are such that the supply of heat to the oven walls can be controlled in the vertical direction. As shown the products of distillation are withdrawn through the perforated pipe r, and the heating- flue arrangements are those described in Specification 221,697. Combustion may be controlled to produce an even heating over the whole length of each flue, or preferably a. slightly lower temperature at the bottom of the flue than at the top. By working in this manner the plastic zone is prevented from reaching and passing the outlet duct r before the upper part of the charge has been coked.
