Abstract

275,111. Nasmith, J. W. March 1, 1927. Combing - machines.-In a combing-machine having a swinging nipper plate a pair of feed rollers is provided the nip of which is substantially flush with the plate. The device may be applied to a feed in which a short length, of lap is drawn back before the nipper closes as described in Specification 188,611. The lower feed roller f is mounted in adjustable bearings 7 carried by the nipper bridge B and is accommodated in a slot in the nipper plate 1. The upper feed roller F is carried by bearings 14 adjustable along a rod 15 hinged to a lever 8 hinged on the stud 5 to which is attached the connecting-rod 4 imparting movement to the nipper frame K. The lever 8 carries a rod R sliding through a projection 10 on the frame K and adapted as the nipper swings forward to come into contact with a fixed pin P, and to impart a forward movement of the roller F over the roller f. A spring 19 connects the lever 8 to a lever 20 carrying a bowl 22 pressing on the rod 15 thus imparting the necessary pressure to the feed rolls and normally holding a stud 12 on the lever 8 against the frame K. In the return movement of the nipper the roller F is drawn back bodily over the roller f. The usual ratchet feed is arranged to impart rotation to the roller F.
