Bodies.-Motor vehicle bodies, particularly closed sheet metal bodies, consist of an assemblage of composite units, sill members, and other parts necessary to complete the body, without dependence on frame or skeleton members, each composite unit being constructed by assembling relatively small panels provided with flanged edges and formed to their final shape. As shown the body comprises a rear section and a front section mounted on a base or sill section together wih a roof section. The rear section comprises side panels 27, 30 Fig. 5, and rear panels 26, 29, each stamped to final form, and having inturned flanges 34, 35, 86, the contiguous flanges being united by bolts or rivets passing through holes 37, Fig. 4, and having interposed the flanges of a moulding 39, which flanges are clipped over the flanges 34, 35 as shown at 38. A door pillar 40 is secured to the inturned flange 36 so as to be accurately perpendicular to the base member 15 to which the rear section is secured by bolts or rivets passing through holes previously formed in the base member 15 and the inturned flanges of the lower panels 27. The front section comprises a cowl panel 17 with dash 18 and a windscreen member 19 forming also a door pillar, the panel and member 19 being united by inturned flanges in the panel 17. The front section is mounted on the base members 15 in a manner similar to that of the rear section. The roof section comprises side members 22, and cross members 23 Fig. 6, the whole being covered by flexible fabric. Specifications 261,727 and 261,728 are referred to.
