Spring wheels.-A flexible or articulated rim is connected to the hub portion of the wheel by stretched rubber rings, or tensioned springs, so that under load the wheel assumes the form illustrated in Fig. 4. The rim or tread portion may consist of jointed rigid blocks 1, Fig. 3, with cutaway faces 3 - - 6 to permit (and limit) the deformation under load, the blocks 1 alternating with resilient sections or being connected by springs 7, 8. Fig. 7 shows a modification in which the blocks 19 are carried bv continuous flexible bands 17, 18 enclosed by yokes 26 riveted to brackets 21 which are suspended from the wheel centre by rubber bands 25. Rubber buffers 28 serve to limit the deformation of the tread. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a modification in which the rubber bands 36, Fig. 9 (Cancelled), are carried by pins 33, 37 mounted respectively on the wheel centre and a continuous elastic tyre 35. A rigid hoop 41 and washers 40 are fitted on the pins as shown ; and the use of rubber bands 34, Fig. 12 (Cancelled), fitted over pins 37 and arranged in the loops of a corrugated rim 64 over which a rubber or leather tread band 65 is fitted. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
