Electrodes.-The positive electrode of a dry cell consists of zinc or other metal deposited on the outer surface of a porous material such as paper or fabric which is wrapped round the carbon electrode to which it may be stuck by means of the electrolyte. The whole is plunged. into a bath of exciting liquid and the ends then coated with wax, varnish, &c. The cell is completed by immersion in a rubber solution. The positive electrode may be cut from a large sheet, a tongue being left for making connection to a current collector or an adjacent cell by welding, soldering &c. The metal may be deposited on the paper &c. wrapping by spraying or painting or electrolytically.
