270,570. Soc. Anon. des Usines, Boulonneries et Etirage. Oct. 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Forging-dies.-In dies for forging the heads of rivets, bolts, screws, spikes, &c. of the kind in which one of the dies has a forging cavity deeper than required to form the head and the other die has a projection around the hole for the metal blank adapted to fit exactly into the cavity, which latter has vents for the escape of air and surplus metal, one of the dies has a shoulder adapted to engage a flange on the other die to guide the projection into the forging cavity, and the air vents open into the top of the forging cavity. The die 1, Fig. 1, for forming the head of a rivet 3 has a cavity 4 into which enters a projection 6 in the die 2. A vent 7 leading from the top of the cavity 4 permits escape of air from the enclosed space. The shoulder 14 on the die 2 enters the flange 15 on the die 1. In the dies for forming screw spikes shown in Fig. 3, the cylindrical portion 9 of the cavity communicates by a concave surface 13 with a square recess 10 for forming the square part of the head of the spike 11, four additional vents 12 extending from the corners of the recess.
