Abstract

Pneumatic separating.-In separating machines of the kind comprising two concentric chambers c, d through which circulates a stream of air, and a rotary disc 3 which projects the material into the stream of air as it rises in the inner chamber c, the shaft 2, carrying the disc 3 is mounted free from shock in bearings in a rigid tubular member 7 which serves for supplying the material to the distributing disc. The member 7 carries a foot-step bearing 8 for the shaft at its lower end and is secured to strong beams 9 which are preferably anchored to the floor of the engine room. The upper shaft bearing is carried by a plate 11 with feed apertures 10. In the apparatus described, the rotary disc is provided with pins 4 adapted to coact with pins 6 provided on a disc 5 secured to the lower end of the member 7 for comminuting the material. The circulating stream of air is produced by a fan on the underside of the disc 3.
