Dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power.-In crane-driving sets comprising an engine, generator, and motor, means are provided for absorbing excessive energy which would otherwise be returned from the motor to the generator during regenerative braking at high speeds of lowering. The device may be an eddy-current brake on the generator shaft, an additional coupled generator, or a resistance in the regeneration circuit, and may be brought into action by a centrifugal or electromagnetic switch.
