Abstract

269,177. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Roberson, F.). April 9, 1926, [Convention date]. Automatic circucit-breakers.-In the circuitbreaker described in Specification 252,185, in which two contact-arms 10, 11, Fig. 1, are maintained in contact with one. another (after actuation by hand or electromagnetically) by the poles 20, 21 of an electromagnetic, in order to adapt the breaker to A.C. or D.C. circuits in which the current may be in either direction or may reverse, the bucking-bar 26, Figs. 1 and 2, instead of being of U-form is S- or Z-shaped so that the main current through it weakens the hold-on flux for one of the contact arms and strengthens it for the other according to the direction of the main current. In a modification the same result is obtained by using a separate magnetic core and separate excitation for each of the pairs of poles 20, 21 and employing as before a U-shaped bucking-bar which may be energized from a current transformer in the line. In this case the flux across the two pole gaps instead of being in the same direction as in Fig. 1 are in opposite directions. Specifications 125,279, and 29980/10 are referred to also.
