Abstract

268,922. Hill, W. J. Feb. 11, 1926. Hasp fastenings for trunks, suitcases, and .like receptacles of variable capacity comprise an attachment member formed of telescopic members 1, 2 of which the fixed member 1 is provided with a rack 7 with ratchet teeth 10 at the back of the casing, the movable member 2 carrying a rocking lever 12 with a catch 13 for engaging the teeth of the rack, the hasp 5 carrying a heel member 19 which, when the member 5 is opened, is moved to depress the end 16 of the lever 12 and disengage the catch 13 from the rack against the action of a spring 14. In a modification, the lever is mounted so as to avoid the use of the pivot pin 11.
