Abstract

267,850. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. June 3, 1926, [Convention date]. Regulating.-In a back-pressure turbine of the bleeder type, the valve at the tapping place is regulated by the back-pressure and the live steam inlet valve of the turbine by the pressure in the tapping pipe. Live steam enters the turbine 1, 2 through the pipe 3 and valve 4, and is tapped off down the pipe 5 between the high and low pressure units, exhausting at the pipe 7. When the pressure in the pipe 7 falls, the diaphragm 12 opens a valve in a pipe supplied by the pump 8 with oil under pressure, allowing the oil to lift the piston 13 and open the tapping valve 6 wider to permit a greater proportion of steam to pass through the low-pressure unit 2. When the pressure in the tapping pipe 5 falls, the diaphragm 14 opens a valve in the oil system and allows the oil to lift the piston 17 to open the inlet. valve 4 wider and permit the influx of more live steam. If the piston 13 and 17 are supplied with oil in parallel instead of in series, and a throttle inserted between the oil supply pipe and the piston 13, the added advantage that the back pressure also regulates the live steam inlet valve is obtained.
