Abstract
266,090. Straussler, N. Dec. 18, 1925. Pontoon rafts. - Collapsable boats, pontoons, and like floating structures constructed of rigid frames comprise a floor A, Figs. 2 and 3, of two identical panels flexibly connected by webbing so as to be foldable along a central longitudinal line F<1> and having tapering ends and two continuous side walls B, B<1> flexibly connected thereto by webbing D, E so as to be foldable outside the floor, the lower edges having a shape similar to the floor edge. When extended, owing to the curved ends, the floor is inclined upwardly at each end. To maintain the boat open, detachable stiffeners such as rods with right and left hand screws may be engaged with nuts secured in the walls. For a closed structure, two boatlike members are used, the edges of the walls being in contact and secured together by an upper and a lower longitudinal strip of flexible material. The keel edges F<1> are at the sides and adjacent to them are secured levers for pulling out the frame. A valve is fitted to control ingress and egress of air when extending and collapsing the structure respectively. Plywood, with or without, inner and outer coats of thin galvanized steel or other metal is used.
