Hasp fastenings.-The extensible hasp fastening devices of a suit case &c. of variable capacity comprise helically grooved or screw-threaded members of steep pitch mounted to slide within guides or retaining tubes attached to the case. Fig. 4 shows the construction of the hasp members c which are mounted in tubular guides d and terminate in hinged hasp plates o The hasp plates o are pivoted to swivelling axial extensions c<1> of the parts c and carry spring pawls h<1> adapted to engage ratchet wheels i<1> on the rods c to render motion of the rods only in one direction possible-i.e. to effect the closing down of the lid portion-so long as the hasps are engaged with the locks.
