Abstract

263,366. Daughs, C. W. April 7, 1926- Slings.-A bundle of planks &c. is stacked upon corner pieces 15, 16 carried by one or more sling ropes 11, and having the outer surface at the corner curved and with limbs extending for a substantial distance beyond the curved portion. A top bar 35 is placed upon the stack adjacent to each rope 11, this bar being carried by a sling rope 41 which runs under pivoted staples 40 on the bar and carries lifting, hooks 47 which are engaged with the ends of the sling rope 11. Eyes at the ends of the rope or ropes 41 are passed over the lifting hook 44. On lifting, the ends of the rope 11 are drawn inwards over recesses in the ends of the bar 35 so that downward and inward pressures are exerted on the bundle. The bundle is loaded on to a vessel &c. for transport with the corner pieces 15, 16 and ropes 11 in position in readiness for attaching to bars 35 and their associated parts on arrival at the destination.
