Abstract

Cutting slices in succession.-In a slicing- machine of the type wherein a rotary knife is carried by a swinging arms, means are provided for imparting uniform movements to the feed mechanism irrespective of the amplitude of the swing, and the slice thickness is adjusted by an independent device. As shown in Fig. 2, the invention is applied to the machine described in Specification 257,201. The feed screw 27 is revoluble in the frame 1 of the machine and is actuated by a ratchet wheel 28 and a pawl 29 which is carried by a rod 34 pivoted to a lever 35 pivoted at 36 and having a roller 35a engageable with a cam face 33<a>, 33<b> of a member 33 adjustably connected to the swinging arm 13. The movement of the feed screw is controlled by a shroud 31 adjusted in relation to the ratchet wheel 28 by a rod 32<a> and handle 32. The roller 35<a> is kept in contact with the cam 33<a>, 33<b> by a spring 41 and the member 33 is revoluble on the boss 37 and is locked in a position, depending on the amplitude to be imparted to the knife, by the engagement of a spring-pressed pin 38, carried by the member 33, with one of a series of holes 39 in the swinging-arm 13. The pin may be carried by the arm 13 and the holes arranged arcuately in the member 33. The invention may be applied to machines wherein the knife is rotated by the movement of the swinging arm.
