Abstract

262,748. Townsend, H. E. Dec. 9, 1925, [Convention date]. Feeding and registering webs. - Relates to machines for wrapping substantially cylindrical articles or batches. The wrapping-material is fed from a roll 17, Fig. 1, and passes around a guide roller 160 to feed rollers 18 on shafts 162, 163. The shafts 162, 163 can be moved apart to throw the feed out of gear by a handlever 168 having a toggle action relatively to a spring-held link 170. Vertical guide wires 212 extend from grooves in rollers 18 to a block 214 on which is mounted the fixed part of the cutting- apparatus. The web passes through a mouthpiece 260 and into a positioning device 22 and a length is cut off by blades 20, 21. A ratchet wheel 196 is loosely mounted on a shaft connected by gearing to the rollers 18 and is engaged by a pawl 192, so that during the upward movement of a rack 200 the rollers 18 are rotated to feed a length of web.
