Knock-down cases designed to be of variable capacity; lined cases.-In a collapsable suit case &c. wherein upper and lower frames are adapted to fit one within the other when the case is collapsed the frames 3, 4 are connected by lazy tongs or like bracing and means are provided for locking the bracing in the collapsed, expanded and intermediate positions of the case. The bracing may be locked by forming the pivot pin 10 as a thumb screw and providing a nut whereby the screw can be tightened upon the members of the bracing, or, alternatively, the locking means may comprise a U-shaped device engaging in holes in one member of the bracing and adapted to embrace the other member, a split pin or the like being threaded through the ends of the limbs of the device. In another form the. bracing may be locked in any desired position by providing a spring clip 22, Fig. 12, which is forced into engagement with the pivot pin 21 when its ends 23 are pressed into holes in one of the bracing members 5. The case may be secured in the erect position by providing a link pivoted to one of the bracing members 5 and adapted to engage a stud on the other member, and may be secured in the collapsed position by forming a recess 7, Fig. 5, at one end of each of the guide slots 6 in which the ends of the bracing members slide, and providing a leaf spring 8 or other resilient device which normally blocks the mouth of the recess 7. The casc may be provided with an inner shell comprising walls hinged to the bottom frame and adapted to be held in the erect position by the contents of the case.
