Abstract
260,887. Cignolo, E. June 2, 1926. Soldering-irons.-In an electric soldering-iron of the type in which the heating is effected by an arc formed between the bit and an adjustable carbon &c. electrode, the handle is provided with a switch one pole of which is connected to a separate portable variable resistance. The bit E is secured to an aluminium or like member D and the electrode I is secured by a ring J in the split end of a serew G which has an insulated thumb piece H or loop and passes through a metal member F. The members D, F are secured on a wooden handle A through which the lead wires pass. The bottom of the handle is provided with a double pole socket K so as to cut out the current. The circuit is completed through an external resistance consisting of coils P<1>-P<8> connected in series through binding posts Q<1>-Q<6> to any of which the return wire is secured according to the voltage. The leads may also have a double pole switch L Direct or alternating current may be used at voltages of 110 to 250. In a modification, Fig. 5 and 6, the electrode I is carried by a screw G having an insulating knob H and passing through a metal sleeve F insulated from the member D to which the bit is secured. The circuit may be made or broken by a two-pole switch such as a rotatable ring K<1> having a conducting segment for bridging spring contact studs in the handle A connected respectively with the external supply and with the terminal C.
