Abstract

A lifting trolley (10) for use with a base frame (60, Figure 3) of a prefabricated shell (82, Figure 5) for forming a utility room is provided. The trolley comprising a chassis, a first set of wheels (14) and a steerable wheel assembly (16) disposed on the chassis, a lifting assembly (18) having a coupling means (20) for cooperative engagement with a corresponding coupling means (66 or 68 Figure 3) disposed on the base frame, the coupling means (20) being disposed substantially between the first set of wheels (14), and an actuator (22) for moving the lifting assembly relative to the chassis between a lowered position in which the coupling means of the lifting trolley and the frame element can align and be received and a raised position in which the coupling means of the lifting trolley and the frame element are securely coupled. The base frame (60 Figure 3) comprising a plurality of frame elements (70, 72, 74, Figure 3), a first coupling means (66, Figure 3) disposed on one side of the base frame for cooperative engagement with a coupling means of the lifting trolley when the lifting trolley is in a raised position; and a plurality of adjustable feet. A transportation system (80, Figure 5) comprising two trollies (10a, 10b, Figure 5) and a base frame (60, Figure 5).

Claims (28)

1 . A base frame for a prefabricated shell, the base frame comprising: a plurality of frame elements, each frame element being connected to at least one other frame element; a first coupling means disposed on one side of the base frame for cooperative engagement with a coupling means of a lifting trolley; and a plurality of adjustable feet for levelling the base frame and supporting the base frame above a surface on which the feet are placed.
2. A base frame as claimed in claim 1 , in which the coupling means includes forklift tine receiving bores disposed in two sides of the base frame, the forklift tine receiving bores extending through the frame elements on each side of the base frame.
3. A base frame as claimed in claim 2, in which on one side of the base frame there is a single tine receiving bore for receiving both tines of lifting trolley and a pair of tine receiving bores opposite the single tine receiving bore.
4. A base frame as claimed in claim 1 , in which the base frame comprises a second coupling means disposed at the other side of the base frame to the first coupling means.
5. A base frame as claimed in either claim 1 or claim 4, in which the or each coupling means includes a receiving aperture and an engagement slot extending from the receiving aperture.
6. A base frame as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the base frame comprises a plurality of rollers disposed around the lower surface of the base frame.
7. A base frame as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the base frame comprises a plurality of roller balls disposed around the lower surface of the base frame.
8. A base frame as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the base frame is substantially U-shaped and the plurality of frame elements include a first frame element, a second frame element parallel to the first frame element, a rear frame element perpendicular to the first and second frame elements and connecting them together to form the U-shape.
9. A base frame as claimed in any of claims 1 to 7, in which the base frame is substantially L-shaped.
10. A base frame as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the base frame further includes a transportation bar removably connected to at least two of the plurality of frame elements.
11 . A base frame as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the adjustable feet are offset from the plurality of frame elements.
12. A base frame as claimed in any preceding claim, in which adjustable feet are inline with the plurality of frame elements.
13. A prefabricated shell for forming a utility room in a building comprising a base frame as claimed in any preceding claim and a wall extending upwardly from the plurality of frame elements.
14. A lifting trolley for use with a base frame of a prefabricated shell for forming a utility room, the trolley comprising: a chassis; a first set of wheels disposed at one end of the chassis and at least one wheel disposed at the other end of the chassis; a lifting assembly moveably coupled to the chassis, the lifting assembly having a coupling means for cooperative engagement with a corresponding coupling means disposed on the base frame, the coupling means being disposed substantially between the first set of wheels; and an actuator for moving the lifting assembly relative to the chassis between a lowered position and a raised position.
15. A lifting trolley as claimed in claim 14, in which the chassis includes a substantially U- shaped yoke, in which a wheel of the first set of wheels are disposed at the end of each arm of the substantially U-Shaped yoke.
16. A lifting trolley as claimed in in claim 14 or claim 15, in which the lifting assembly includes at least one lateral adjustment means for adjusting the lateral position of coupling means.
17. A lifting trolley as claimed in claim 16, in which the or each lateral adjustment means includes a track disposed on the lifting assembly and a cooperating element disposed on the coupling means.
18. A lifting trolley as claimed in claim 16 or claim 17, in which the or each lateral adjustment means includes two parallel running tracks disposed on the lifting assembly and two cooperating elements disposed on the coupling means, each cooperating element sliding on one of the parallel running tracks.
19. A lifting trolley as claimed any of claims 14 to 18, in which the coupling means comprises two coupling elements.
20. A lifting trolley as claimed in claim 19, in which each coupling element includes a substantially vertical bearing surface for bearing against a portion of the base frame and providing stability in the raised position.
21. A lifting trolley as claimed in claim 19 or claim 20, in which each coupling element includes a connector pin.
22. A lifting trolley as claimed in any of claims 14 to 21 , in which the actuator is a pneumatically, hydraulically, or electrically powered.
23. A lifting trolley as claimed in any of claims 14 to 22, in which a mechanical linkage arm is provided to further couple the lifting assembly to the chassis.
24. A lifting trolley as claimed in any of claims 14 to 23, in which the lifting trolley comprises an operator element having at least one control means to control the operation of the lifting trolley.
25. A lifting trolley as claimed in any of claims 14 to 24, in which the coupling means is a removable coupling unit.
26. A transportation system comprising: a first and a second lifting trolley as claimed in any one of claims 14 to 25; and a base frame as claimed in claim 1 , 3 or 4, or claims 5 to 12 when dependent on claims 3 or 4 or a prefabricated shell for forming a utility room as claimed in claim 13 when dependent on claim 1 , 3, or 4, or claims 5 to 12 when dependent on claims 3 or 4.
27. A method of lifting a base frame using a first lifting trolley and second lifting trolley, the base frame comprising two coupling means disposed on or in the base frame, each lifting trolley having a coupling means for cooperative engagement with the corresponding coupling means disposed on the base frame, the method comprising the steps of: locating the first lifting trolley proximate one end of the base frame and the second lifting trolley proximate the other end of the base frame; aligning the coupling means of the first lifting trolley with the first coupling means of the base frame; aligning the coupling means of the second lifting trolley with the second coupling means of the base frame; sliding the coupling means of the first lifting trolley to the first coupling means of the base frame; sliding the coupling means of the second lifting trolley to the second coupling means of the base frame; actuating the first lifting trolley from a lowered position to the raised position causing the coupling means of the first lifting trolley to securely couple to the first coupling means of the base frame; and actuating the second lifting trolley from the lowered position to the raise position causing the coupling means of the second lifting trolley to securely couple to the second coupling means of the base frame.
28. A method of lifting a base frame using a first lifting trolley and second lifting trolley, the base frame comprising two coupling means disposed on or in the base frame, each lifting trolley having a removable coupling unit for cooperative engagement with the corresponding coupling means disposed on the base frame, the method comprising the steps of: coupling the removable coupling unit of the first trolley to a first coupling means disposed at one end of the base frame; coupling the removable coupling unit of the second trolley to a second coupling means disposed at the other end of the base frame; connecting the first lifting trolley and the second lifting trolley to their respective removable coupling units; actuating the first lifting trolley from a lowered position to the raised position causing the removable coupling unit to securely couple to the first coupling means of the base frame; and actuating the second lifting trolley from the lowered position to the raise position causing the removable coupling unit of the second lifting trolley to securely couple to the second coupling means of the base frame.
