Abstract

259,501. Redfern, C. G., (American Optical Co.). May 28, 1926. Spectacle lenses.-In order to remove the astigmatism of the reading portion of a fused bifocal lens due to the spherical segment, the entire blank is heated upon a block 12 of toric form, so that the lens settles on to the block 12, giving the surfaces and also the insert 11 a toric form. The radii of the curvature of the two meridians are chosen so that they will correct the astigmatism of the spherical segment. The insert 11 after heating and bending assumes an elliptical form. A numerical example is given in the Specification.
