Abstract

259,425. Page, F. G. Dec. 18, 1925. Bunions and the like, treatment of; foot-arch supports.-In an appliance of the type comprising a toe-engaging member, a band encircling the foot and an elastic member extending from the toe-engaging member around the foot, the elastic member is attached at one end to the band on the outer side of the foot and at the other end to the toe-engaging member at a point at or near the medial joint of the toe. A pad may be secured in the band under the anterior arch of the foot for the relief of metatarsalgia. In the form shown in side view in Fig. 1 and in the wearing position in Fig. 2, the big toe is surrounded by an elastic band a attached at one end of an elastic member b extending around the foot and tending to pull the toe longitudinally and outwards, the connection preferably comprising two strips of leather or similar material b<1> which are sewn to the band a and form a guide for the end of the member b. A flexible band c surrounds the foot and has a guide e through which the member b passes. The other end of the member b is secured by a leather or other extension b<2> to a buckle f on the outer side of the band c. The underside of the band c carries two sewn pieces of leather c<1>, c<2> which form a pocket for a rubber arch-pad d, the protrusion of which is determined by a line of stitching d<1>. A pad y may be used to protect the joint of the toe.
