Abstract

259,412. Lago, A. F. Nov. 19, 1925. Cylinders, heads for, passages and ports of, and arrangement of igniters in.-Means for converting a side-valve engine into an overhead-valve engine comprises replacing the cylinder head by a head having inlet and exhaust passages 8, 9 which are connected to the existing inlet and exhaust piping, the existing passages in the cylinder block being closed bv plates 6; the inlet passages 8 are common for two adjacent cylinders, whereas the exhaust passages 9 are separate. The valves 12 are operated from the existing cam mechanism by rockers 21 and push rods 23 which slide in the old valve guides and guides 25, considerable clearance 24 being allowed. Pin joints between the rod 23 and rockers 21 may comprise a ball 27 and a socket 26. Springs 28 return the push rods. Sparking plugs 29 are arranged as shown. The Provisional Specification describes inlet ports which are larger than the exhaust ports and sparking plugs which are arranged at an angle of 60‹ to the crank axis when viewed in plan.
