Coal - cutting machines. -The cutter chain of a coal-cutting machine is supported on a structure comprising a turntable 13 with a projecting bracket 15 to which is bolted a channel member 19, a plate 18 being interposed; a frame built of plates 20, 21 carries the idle sprocket 23 and is slidably supported on the channel member 19, the frame being adjusted by means of a screw 26. An aperture in the bracket 15 gives access to the screw 26 and is provided with a spring-pressed cover 30. The links 4 of the cutter chain are hollowed and have longitudinal and rearwardly-tapering trapezoidal slots in which cutters 10 are mounted. The cutter chain comprises a number of sets of links 4, the first link of a set carrying one cutter and the others each carrying two cutters arranged at successively increasing angles.
