Abstract

256,153. Gell, J. March 19, 1926. Tools; tool - holders; cutters and cutter-bars.- A cutting tool for lathes and like machines of the disc or circular type is formed as a frustrum of a cone having a leading face 4 of helical form so as to provide cutting clearance in the three directions 1, 2, and 3. the face of the helix is inclined to the axis of the tool and it may be secured to a holder by a screwed hole as shown in Fig. 9 or by a screwed stem. The cutter may be used for boring or recessing when traversed axially and for facing when traversed laterally. When the tool is mounted in a machine by means such as a turret, tailstock, or boring spindle having axial traverse only, a holder is used comprising two sleeves 6 ,8, Fig. 6, each being eccentrically bored and the latter receiving the shank 10, of the tool. Reamers.-If the tool is mounted in a reversed position from that shown in Fig. 6 it may be used as a reamer. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 133,321.
