Abstract

252,598. Beitel, W. J. Sept. 23, 1925. Moulding wheel tyres. - Relates to moulds for apertured cushion tyres of the type involving mould halves carrying opposed sets of pins adapted to form the apertures, and consists in providing pins of such a length as to leave a relatively small gap between the opposing ends of the pins when the moulds are fully closed, to ensure filling of the mould; further the ends of the pins may be drilled to form pockets and the mould walls may be grooved for the escape of air. As shown, the pins 8, riveted at 9 to the mould walls 1, 2, are adapted to leave a clearance of about one-thirty-second part of an inch when the mould is fully closed. The heads of the pins are drilled with holes 11 and may be countersunk at 12. Grooves 17 are provided in the mould walls. After moulding and vulcanizing, the webs formed between the pins are removed by tubular drills.
