Ball and like mills.- In a ball or tube mill in which the material is delivared to or from the mill through a hollow trunnion by which the shell or drum is supported at each end, the driving-mechanism is arranged axially in line with the drum of the mill and is connected through a suitable coupling with one of the trunnions, which is closed at its outer end and provided in its peripheral wall with openings for the passage of material. Fig. 1 shows the hollow trunnion at the discharge end of a mill connected with the driving-mechanism q. A hollow extension d secured by bolts f to the trunnion b is closed at its outer end by a diaphragm k and has openings l in its peripheral wall through which the material passes to a screen m. The coupling-member i which receives the end of the driving-mechanism q is secured by flanges h and bolts j to the member d. Figs. 2 and 3 show the driving-mechanism c<2> connected to the hollow trunnion b<2> at the feed end of the mill, and the extension d' of the trunnion b<2> formed with teed-openings d<3> and external scoops f<1> which take the material fed into a surrounding chamber g<1 >and deliver it within the hollow trunnion b<2>. The extension d<2> is pro. vided internally with radial partitions e<1> and the usual feeding-cone e<1>.
