Luggage holders; receptacles, detachably securing to running-boards and other flat bases. - A device for use in holding luggage on the running- board or other part of a motor-vehicle comprises a flexible band 10 mounted upon a drum or roller 9 from which it is adapted to be unwound to form an enclosure extending around the luggage. In the construction shown, the roller 9 is mounted in a casing 2, which is attached by clamping means 4, 5 to a running-board 1, and the band 10, on emerging from a slot 11 in the casing passes round the luggage and is held at its reinforced free end by ear-pieces 13 engaging hooks 15 on the casing. In its extended or operative position the band 10 also passes around a post 22, which is slidably adjustable on, but not detachable from, the band and is supported in a vertical position on the running-board by a lug 23 entering a socket 24. A pawl 18 and ratchet-wheel 17 prevent withdrawal of the band from the casing unless the pawl is intentionally disengaged from the ratchet, and so maintain the tension on the band, while a handle 16 is provided for winding the band on to the roller. According to the Provisional Specification, more than one band may be used, or the casing may be disposed horizontally, or the device may be arranged on a rear luggage-grid or on the roof of a vehicle.
