Abstract

A fastener for retaining an article 12 on a platform or other support includes a flexible tension member 2 anchored at one end to a rigid tubular guide 1 therefor and passed through the guide to extend from the other end thereof, the guide having fixing means 9 thereon whereby it is attachable to or integral with, the platform or other support, and the free end of the tension member being provided with attachment means 5, whereby the free end of the tension member is attachable to the platform or support or to the article itself. As shown, the tension member 2 is anchored at the one end to the spindle 8 of a ratchet and pawl device 6, 7, and the guides 1 of a pair of fasteners are secured to a transverse support 13 of a pallet 10. The attachment means 5, in the form of hooks, are engaged with parts of the vehicle, which may be a car-body. In another form, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the tension member is resiliently extendable and is anchored at one end to the guide by means of a wire coil (23). The free end of the tension member is gripped on a wire coil (24) carrying a hook or lug (25). The tension member may be a helicalspring or a chain and the guide may be formed integrally with a support platform and may be integral with a member of a vehicle roof rack.
