Abstract

251,383. Humpage, T. Feb. 23, 1925. Cigarette-making machines. -In a cutting-device for severing cigarette rods or the like, so that the cuts are square with the rod &c., and comprising a rotary cutter carried by an arm which is oscillated about, and reciprocated along, its axis as described in Specification 6698/13, the arm 27 carrying the cutter 33 is secured to a shaft 16 which receives the double motion from a crankarm 13 secured thereto and having pivotal engagement with an eccentric 4 mounted in a rotating disc 2. The arm 13 has a spherical connection 9 to a bush 7 mounted eccentrically within the eccentric 4, and the motion imparted to the cutter is adjusted by rotatably adjusting the eccentric 4 within the disc 2, and by connecting the arm 13 to the ball 9 in either of two positions by passing a pin 12 through one or other of the slots 12a, 12b. Again, the arm 13 is provided with an adjustable end portion 15, the position of which may be varied while the machine is in motion by means of worm gearing 14, 15 actuated by a handwheel 24 and jointed telescopic connection 21, 22, 23. The cutter 33 bears against a ledger plate 32 carried by an arm 30 which reciprocates axially with the shaft 16, the cigarette &c. rod passing centrally through the ledger plate.
