Abstract

251,137. Wetzer, R. June 20, 1925. Charging batteries.- In voltage-controlled relays in which the movement of the contact-member is accentuated by the closing or opening of an auxiliary contact upon operation to short-circuit or insert resistance into the actuating circuit of the relay, the return movement of the contact-member is effected by means of an electromagnetic switch controlled by the contactmember; this switch increases the resistance of the relav circuit or breaks it in the first case and reduces the resistance in the second. The armature of this electromagnetic switch may control' the charging circuit of a battery across which therelay is connected. As shown in Fig. 1, the contact-member of the moving-coil maximum-voltage relay D, in addition to engaging a contact: to accentuate its movement, engages a contact d which energizes a re-setting magnet E which opens the relay circuit at contact i. The charging of the battery B is stopped at the same time at contact l. An electromagnet E<1> controls the restarting of the charge. The application to solenoid relays is similarly described. As applied to the maximum-voltage relay D, Fig. 4, the electromagnet E closes at contact i a shunt about the relay circuit resistance wand the accentuating resistance w'.
