Thermionic valve circuits. - In order to close and open a circuit 3 intermittently, auxiliary contacts 12 on the interrupter are arranged to control the potential of the grid 7 of a threeelectrode thermionic valve through which the actuating coil 4 is supplied, and the charging of a condenser 10 across the grid circuit serves to determine the time-interval between opening and closing. With the arrangement as shown, the negative potential on the grid is gradually decreasing owing to the discharge of the condenser 10 through the resistance 11. When the potential is low enough the valve is " open," that is to say it conducts, and, in consequence, the winding 4 is energized and the circuit 3 is completed by the bridge 2. The condenser is now connected to the suorce 19 and is charged at a rate depending on the adjustment of the resistances 11, 20. The grid gradually assumes a potential which causes it to " shut," whereupon the relay opens again. This action is continuous, the timing being dependent on the adjustments of the resistances. An auxiliary relay 15 which closes when the bridge 2 closes (by current supplied from the filament battery) is employed to ensure that the full voltage 19 is applied to the condenser during the latter part of the charging period.
