Abstract

A pair of spectacles (1) is provided with a frame (2) and a pair of combined lenses (66) carried by the frame. Each combined lens has an adjustable focal length and comprises two lens elements (66A, 66B) arranged one behind the other along an optical axis of the combined lens. An adjustment mechanism is arranged to move the two lens elements laterally relative to one another to vary the focal length whereby each lens element is movable in a direction opposite to the other lens element and transverse to the optical axis. In this manner the optical axis remains substantially fixed relative to the frame. The adjustment mechanism comprises at least one frame- connected rotatable element engaging at least one lens element and, when in use, urges a lateral movement of the at least one lens element, and a lever (62) for transferring the lateral movement of one lens element of the combined lens to a lateral movement of the other lens element in the opposite direction.
