Abstract

A vehicle having crawler tracks 1 is provided for carrying implements. Remote control is provided either through an umbilical cord or by radio control for operator safety. The vehicle has track oscillation locking rams 8 for automatic locking of track oscillation for access to steep, uneven and mountainous terrain. A tilting top superstructure 11 keeps an engine and mounted implement in a level plane for best efficiency. 180 degrees slew capability enables accurate placing of the mounted implement. A telescopic arm 12 provides flexibility in confined spaces to place the implement in a required position. A second category three point linkage is provided by an implement mounting head 14. The three point linkage and a power take off are provided so the vehicle may be used with many different implements in many different applications.

Description

Remote controlled tracked implement carrier for agricultural, forestry, environmental, construction and civil engineering use
Background
In steep mountainous terrain the ground is very uneven, there are ridges and furrows, boulders, gullies and other obstacles in the path of modem labour saving implements and machinery.
Such machinery commonly uses the power take off provided by an agricultural tractor through a Category II three point linkage. These wheeled tractors are at a disadvantage when faced with the aforementioned obstacles and when it becomes necessary to accurately position the tractor, to enable an implement, such as a post hammer, to be placed precisely to drive the post at the correct dimension from the previous post or when operating tree harvesting equipment.
These ground conditions also pose a hazard for the operator when having to ride on such a tractor or implement which risks overturning, whilst the jolting and vibrations inherent in a tracked tractor are of significant impact to health that they are classified as a risk to be avoided.
The very nature of the terrain also precludes the use ofajointed arm, which needs a large radius in which to operate and is restricted by its operating principles.
Locking track oscillation keeps more of the grousers in contact with the ground so that steep slopes can be accessed with safety, while tilting the superstructure keeps the prime mover and mounted implement on a level plane, accurate slewing allows freedom of movement to the telescopic arm whilst the whole machine is operated remotely and safely.
Statement of invention
Remote controlled tracked implement carrier with automatically locking track oscillation, tilting top superstructure, telescopic arm with 180 degree slew offering Category II three point linkage and hydraulic power take off to transfer engine power to attached agricultural, construction, environmental, civil engineering and forestry implements.
