Cattle-trucks. - In order to protect cattle or other animals from injury by violent impact with the walls of a railway wagon during transport,. cushioning or bumper pads applied in units or sections are arranged to extend at the desired height in an horizontal row completely around the wagon walls. The pads are preferably formed of rubber either solid or with an internal core of hemp, flax or like material or with internal springs and are adapted to be readily removable for cleaning either the pads themselves or the wagon walls. In the arrangement shown the pads 1 are mounted on boards 5 attached to the wagon walls 3 by bolts 6 and have moulded in them nuts 7 which are engaged by bolts 8 to secure the pads to the boards 5. Clamping-bars 9 are applied to the horizontal edges of all the pads and to the vertical edges of the end pads, the joints between the bars and pads being made tight by a thick coating of rubber solution to which a sulphur or mercury compound may be added to prevent the harbouring of insects at the joints. Modifications are described in which attachment plates are moulded in the rubber ,or the pads are directly moulded on to the plates, and in which the pads are in the form of studs or blocks mounted in a metal frame so as to project therefrom at one or both sides.
