Abstract
A motorbike ground anchoring unit is fixed in the ground and includes a pressure pad 1 that is attached to a plunger 8 which when activated pushes clamping arm wheels 9 apart. This raises clamping arms 10 above ground level allowing them to be lifted and secured around motorbike wheel. The clamping arms may be secured by means of a padlock engaging apertures 12 or by means of an integral locking system.
Description
Page 1 Motorbike ground anchoring unit.
As most motorbike anti-theft devices rely on chains, padlocks, disc locks and ground anchors that protrude above ground, the motorbike is still prone to attack and theft. Ground anchors still rely on chains to secure the motorbike and they also protrude above the ground making them a trip hazard.
lmproved systems based upon locks and chains have been devebped. However, all are still accessible and movable, making them vulnerable to attack from bolt cutters, hammers and crow bars etc. Security devices that rely solely on chains have the disadvantage that the motorbike can easily be removed with the security chain still attached. Existing ground anchor devices are remote from the motorbike, again eaving the chain open to attack. Disc locks immobilize the motorbike but the bike can still be removed with the device attached. These devices are all good deterrents but as, motorbike theft is a growing problem, improved ways of securing a motorbike need to be developed.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes to use a pair of locking arms that are housed in a body fixed in the ground that surround either the front or rear wheel preferably the rear wheel of the motorbike as this is harder to remove) and that retract away after use avoiding trip hazards. The base of each arm is secured in a ground anchored unit that is fixed flush into the ground and the tops of the arms are locked together with a padlock or locking system integral in the arms. The arms surround the tyre and rim of the wheel so there are no trailing parts to attack, forming a rigid steel clamp. When the arms are locked into position around the wheel, the motorbike is then anchored to the body fixed into the ground thereby immobilizing the motorbike. Because the arms are stronger than the composites they are containing, attacking the arms would mean damaging the wheel components. To attempt this would take considerable effort and time and render the bike disabled.
This invention also can be made larger or smaller in size so could also be used to anchor different wheel based vehicles.
This invention can use either padlocks or integral locking system built in the arms for ease of reference the description below describes use of securing by padlock. This invention can be used to secure front or rear wheel but for ease of reference the description below refers to a rear wheel. Page2
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the top view of the motorbike ground anchor unit which shows the pressure pad 1 and clamping arms 2 in the top housing plate 3 and fixing pins 5.
Figure 2 shows the side elevation of outside casing 4 and fixing pins 5 top pate3 and pressure pad 1.
Figure 3 shows a cross section A/A of the motorbike ground anchoring unit. The pressure pad I is held up by springs 6 on guide pins 7 housed in a recess in the top plate 3. When pressure is applied to the pressure pad I the plunger S which is attached to the pressure pad I travels down and pushes the wheek 9 apart because of its tapered end. The wheels 9 are held central in the clamping arms 10 by a slot 15 (fig4) in the bottom of the arm and guide pin 11 that protrudes each side of the clamping arm 10 as shown in(fig 4). The guide pins 11 are guided by curved slots 13 (figS) which are situated on the inner body 14(fig5). This allows the clamping arms 10 to be manually raised till they touch and then secured using a suitable padlock through holes 12 (fig4) in top of clamping arms 10. The bottom of the clamping arms 10 cannot be removed from housing as the guide pins 11 cannot travel past ends of guide slots 13 (fig5) and wheels 9 cannot travel through top plate 3.
